One of my favourite laptops was the Thinkpad X220. Despite how crappy the 12.5” 1366x768 TN panel screen was, which I eventually replaced with an IPS display for a marginal improvement, it had a lot going for it - fantastic (and waterproof!) keyboard, removable battery, eGPU support, and quaint in size.

Computing has changed a lot since 2011, but it’s hard to find something with the same charm. However, it’s also hard to beat the polish of MacBooks, especially with their new-ish M* chips that knock the performance, battery life, and thermals out of the water. I enjoy working on the couch with my laptop when I need a change in scenery, and it’s nice to not have my thighs burn from the heat of an uncomfortably hot laptop in the summer, or to hear the fans roaring when I’m running large docker compose projects.

As much as I like using Linux, Macs just have a level of polish in the hardware and software integration that makes it a very pleasing, efficient experience, especially in a professional work capacity when you just need to get things done. I save Linux for when I have the freedom of time to tinker at my leisure.
